project overview

The Placebo Apothecary
The Placebo Apothecary is an experimental attempt to give form and taste to a feeling or concern. Specifically we are interested in addressing how the expression of feelings into taste and smell can evoke notions of magic and power. Collaboration with Maki Ueda.

OWL
The OWL project is inspired by Arthur C. Clarke's Third Law of Technology Prediction: that any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic. We work with body props and a series of workshops in which participants build their own exploratory devices. Collaboration with Danielle Wilde.

Magic Machine
We build fantastical machines out of paper, cardboard, wood, string and plastic. As we build, we query the machines and listen to them: What does it do and what does it sound like?

Paperclip Electronics
A workshop format for children connecting electronic circuits with everyday things: paperclips, tape, kitchen foil...

Portable Pixels and Worn Out Sounds
Far out science fiction or the outfit for tomorrow's parties? Large scale workshop for VMBO (secondary school) kids, ~ 200 in all. With Audrey Samson.

Painting With Your Nose
Exploring the sense of smell. An intense workshop experience for children. Collaboration with Maki Ueda.

‘black box / blue box’
A series of boxes that explore simple interactive experiences through performative experiments and/or interviews.

'ensemble'
A set of sensor-based wearable controllers developed for musical experiences for children.

'whisper'
Generating and representing body-data flows using wearable computers and wireless communication. Group project initiated by Thecla Schiphorst and Susan Kozel.

FARAWAY
Conveying a sense of presence between people who are physically distant but emotionally close. Collaboration with Laura Polazzi and Margot Jacobs.

reGossip
A collaborative game platform for mobile devices for multiple authorship of narratives. Collaboration with Jussi Hollopainen and Ron Wakkary.
